Major fluff pulp producer Weyerhaeuser Co. has announced a US$40/tonne May 1 price increase, US$960/tonne, for the U.S. and European markets, an informed source confirmed.
On April 18, Domtar Corp. announced a $40/tonne global fluff pulp price hike for major markets, bringing its prices in North America and Europe to $960/tonne. On April 19, International Paper Co. announced a $40/tonne global fluff pulp price increase, without specifying its new levels.
Late last week Georgia-Pacific LLC (GP) was also said to have announced a May 1 fluff pulp price hike, but the amount was not clear at this writing.
Weyerhaeuser, based in Federal Way, Washington, produces about 1.9 million tonnes/year of pulp for the market, including fluff pulp (more than 1 million tonnes/year), northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK), and southern bleached softwood kraft (SBSK), according to industry sources.
