International Paper Co. (IP) announced a May 1 global US$40/tonne fluff pulp price increase, according to an informed source.
IP told customers its plans on April 19, a day after Domtar Corp. announced a $40/tonne fluff pulp price hike.
The source said the key driver is strong fluff pulp demand from all regions.
IP did not specify the new prices in its announcement. But Domtar’s new price in North America and Europe will be $960/tonne. The price in these two regions has been $920/tonne since September.
IP produces fluff pulp, northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK), southern softwood kraft (SBSK), northern bleached hardwood kraft (NBHK), southern bleached hardwood kraft (SBHK), bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp (BEKP) and bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP).
Its SBSK and SBHK is produced in Riegelwood, North Carolina, and in Eastover, South Carolina, and in Saillat, France.
Its other pulps are produced in mills located overseas: BEKP at mills in Mogi Guacu, Brazil, and Luiz Antionio, Brazil; NBSK and NBHK in Kwidzyn, Poland, and BCTMP in Svetogorsk, Russia
