Domtar Corp. today announced a US$40/tonne fluff pulp price increase for major markets, effective May 1, according to an informed source.
This would bring its price in North America and Europe to $960/tonne. The price in these two regions has been holding at $920/tonne since September, and the source noted that fluff pulp pricing is less than that in various other markets.
This is the first known softwood pulp price hike announcement for May.
For April in North America, Domtar and other producers’ April 1 softwood paper-pulp list prices are $930/tonne for northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) and $890/tonne for southern bleached softwood kraft (SBSK).
Domtar, one of the largest market pulp producers in North America, manufactures market pulp at mills in Canada and the U.S., with a total capacity of more than 1.7 million tonnes/year of fluff pulp, NBSK, SBSK, northern bleached hardwood kraft (NBHK), southern bleached hardwood kraft (SBHK), and specialty pulp.
