Forestweb Communication Papers Index unchanged in August
LOS ANGELES, August 17, 2007 (press release) – The Forestweb North American Communications Papers Index held steady for the third consecutive month at 124.11 in August.
The index level has risen 2.75% this year and is 0.81% above the August 2006 level.
The Communication Papers Index uses shipments and average prices for both cutsize and uncoated freesheet offset rolls. While spot prices weakened seasonally for offset grades, producers have implemented most of May’s announced increases for cutsize.
The Communication Papers Index is a component of the Forestweb North American Printing & Writing Index, which rose 0.13% from July to 106.07. That index is down 5.29% year-over-year and has fallen 3.38% this year.
Forestweb’s price indices are Laspeyres indices that represent a statistical measure of a weighted average of printing and writing paper, pulp and paperboard prices and which summarize the relative changes in price levels over time using an arbitrarily chosen base period. All Forestweb indices use the base year 2000 except for pulp, which uses 2001 as the base year.
