Forestweb North American Packaging Index steady in August
LOS ANGELES, August 17, 2007 (press release) – The Forestweb North American Packaging Index remained at 112.27 for the third consecutive month in August.
The index is 1.07% higher than a year earlier and is up 0.36% this year. Most announced higher prices, including those for containerboard, had not taken effect in the seasonally slow month.
Prices remained unchanged for all packaging board grades except some solid bleached sulfate (SBS) cupstock board. Prices were steady for coated and uncoated recycled paperboard after earlier increases.
Forestweb’s price indices are Laspeyres indices that represent a statistical measure of a weighted average of printing and writing paper, pulp and paperboard prices and which summarize the relative changes in price levels over time using an arbitrarily chosen base period. All Forestweb indices use the base year 2000 except for pulp, which uses 2001 as the base year.
